Guidelines for Poetry Slam
General Guidelines:
Two Participants are expected to join from a particular college.
A participant has 3 minutes to recite their poem. Going over this time will result in a deduction of 0.5 points for every 10 seconds of overtime.
The poem must be an original creation by the participant and should not be plagiarized or merely rephrased. Additionally, the poet should recite the poem from memory.
The participant is not allowed to use props, costumes, pre-recorded/taped music, or musical instruments while performing. Beatboxing, singing, and other methods of creating rhythm or music with your body are permitted.
The poem must not include sexist, racist, homophobic, or transphobic comments. However, expressing anger, upset, and frustration are legitimate emotions, so be creative in how you do it.
The participant should conclude his/er poem with a strong statement, a call to action, or a thought-provoking reflection.
