Guidelines for Typing Test

 

Competition Format:

  1. Rounds

  2. Qualifiers: Short typing tests to filter participants.

  3. Semi-Finals: More challenging text with punctuation and numbers.

  4. Finals: Complex passage, including special characters and symbols.

  5. Time Limit

  6. Usually 1-5 minutes per round

  7. Shorter tests (1-2 min) for speed-focused rounds

  8. Longer tests (5 min) for endurance

 

Competition Rules:

A. General Rules

  1. Use a standard QWERTY keyboard.

  2. No autocorrect or predictive text assistance.

  3. No external typing tools (e.g., macros, auto-typers, or speech-to-text software).

  4. Stay within the competition platform’s interface (no switching windows/tabs).

 

B. Scoring System

Words Per Minute (WPM): Measures speed.

Accuracy: Determines final score adjustment.

 

Final Score Calculation:

  1. Final Score=WPM×Accuracy Percentage

  2. Example: 90 WPM × 98% Accuracy = 88.2 Adjusted Score

 

Penalty for Errors:

  1. Typing mistakes may require backspacing to correct.

  2. Some competitions deduct points for uncorrected errors.

 

Fair Play & Conduct:

  1. No cheating (monitoring software may be used in online events).

  2. Respect time limits (no restarting mid-competition).

  3. Follow event moderator’s instructions.

 

Tie-Breakers:

  1. If two participants have identical scores, a 30-second speed round may determine the winner.

  2. If still tied, accuracy takes priority.
