Poetry Slam

Theme: My Heritage, My Voice: Celebrating Indigenous Identity Through Poetry

Aims and Objectives
  • To promote literary appreciation and a love for poetry among students.
  • To encourage creative expression and original thinking through poetic performance.
  • To develop public speaking, communication skills, and self-confidence.
  • To provide a platform for young poets and performers to showcase their talent and engage with contemporary issues through poetry.

 

Categories:

  • School Level: Class IX–XII
  • College Level and Above: Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students

 

Registration Fee:

  • School Level: ₹250 per participant
  • College & PG Level: ₹350 per participant

 

Format:

  • Solo Participation Only
  • The competition will be conducted live on stage at Lorin Hall, Tetso College.

 

Verification:
Participants must submit:

  • School/College Identity Card
  • Bonafide Certificate or Enrollment Verification (if requested)

 

Submission Requirements:

  • Only original poems written by the participant will be accepted.
  • All Participants are required to perform in English.
  • A typed copy of the poem must be submitted during registration or before the performance.
  • Any form of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.

 

Content Guidelines:

  • Poetry should promote creativity, reflection, social awareness, cultural values, or personal expression.
  • Content containing hate speech, discrimination, obscenity, or offensive language will not be permitted.

 

Performance Rules:
Time Limit:

  • Minimum: 3 minutes
  • Maximum: 5 minutes

Delivery:

  • Participants may perform from memory
  • Effective voice projection, expression, and stage presence are encouraged.

 

Performance Restrictions:

  • Only one poem may be presented.
  • No additional rounds unless announced by the organizers.

 

Prohibited Items
The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Props of any kind
  • Costumes intended to create theatrical effects
  • Masks and special stage effects
  • Background music
  • Musical instruments
  • Pre-recorded audio or sound effects
  • Offensive, hateful, discriminatory, or obscene content

Violation of these rules may result in disqualification.

 

Judging Criteria
Participants will be evaluated on:

  • Originality and Creativity – 25 Marks
  • Content and Theme Development – 25 Marks
  • Delivery and Performance – 20 Marks
  • Voice Modulation and Expression – 15 Marks
  • Audience Engagement and Impact – 15 Marks

 

Scoring and Results

  • Scores will be awarded out of 100 marks.
  • A panel of qualified judges appointed by the organizers will evaluate the performances.
  • In case of a tie, higher marks in delivery and performance will determine the winner.
  • The judges' decision shall be final and binding.
  • No appeals shall be entertained.

 

Conduct and Discipline
Participants are expected to:

  • Maintain professional and respectful conduct.
  • Show respect to judges, organizers, fellow participants, and audience members.
  • Follow all instructions issued by event officials.

 

Grounds for Disqualification

  • Plagiarism
  • Misconduct
  • Use of prohibited materials
  • Exceeding time limits significantly
  • Disruptive behavior
  • Submission of false information

 

Technical and Logistical Rules

  • Participants must report at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the event.
  • Standard microphone and sound system will be provided.
  • Basic lighting arrangements will be available.
  • No individual rehearsal time on stage will be provided unless announced.
  • The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make adjustments in the event of technical difficulties.

 

Rights and Permissions
By participating, contestants agree that:

  • The organizers may photograph, record, and document performances.
  • Recordings and photographs may be used for publicity, reports, publications, and archival purposes.
  • Participants retain authorship of their original work.
  • For participants below 18 years of age, parental or institutional consent may be required.

General Conditions

  • The Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend or modify any rule if necessary.
  • Any matter not covered in these guidelines shall be decided by the Organizing Committee.
  • The organizers shall not be held responsible for any personal loss, injury, or damage during the event.
  • Submission of the registration form implies full acceptance of all rules and regulations.
